How was your January? It's pretty crazy it's already February. How weird is the progression of time, GAH. :))
But, one month into the new year, how are we all doing on our resolutions?
Back in the heady, optimistic mists of December 2012, I resolved to:
1. Be open to what comes next
2. Let it go.
3. Keep breathing.
a. Finish six new (to me) craft projects
b. Complete J-drink Free January
c. Try something new at least once a month
d. Take a photograph every day
e. Start blogging again
f. Exercise at least once a week
On the first 3? Well, I don't think I'm doing that badly. I'm open to what's coming next and plans for the big move are on their way. I submitted my resignation on Friday! I'm trying to focus on the good parts of change and adventure, but I'm still freaking out on a regular basis (I think that's probably absolutely normal!)
But, I'm definitely struggling at work to let things go. When I disagree with people about work, I really disagree and with just a few weeks left, I'm still finding it really frustrating to be told no. I think I know best! This is definitely one I need to work on.
On my more practically minded resolutions? Well, I finished knitting my tea cosy. Lumpy and inelegant as it may be, I followed a pattern, finished it, hid all of the ends, sewed it up, done! One new craft project down, five to go! Next up on my crafty list, I'm sewing some new cushions covers before I leave to replace our current ones (but this one isn't a new craft project) and knitting a baby blanket.
I did not drink the whole of January. And my head is definitely feeling my first G&T of the year this morning! I did lots of new this month: Crystal Palace and its dinosaurs, the Museum of London, I (helped to) put up some shelves, knitted, and pincurled my hair!

But I failed to take a photo every day and to exercise at least once a week.
So while I'm losing one resolution (goodbye January), it's time to refocus on the rest. I need to be realistic about how much exercise I'll be able to do as I'll be away for the next three weeks, but I'm also reminding myself not to use that as an excuse to do nothing. This tends to happen. What I will be concentrating on this month is taking more photographs- one every day to be precise!- and on blogging! February's going to be a busy one, but a good one!
p.s. I'm letting it go and not posting photos in this post. What do you think of posts sans photos?
Posts without photos are fine in my book. I never understand the blog rules that say you have to have a photo for every post. The Zen Habits blog never has photos and it's consistently fantastic. I say do what you want to do!
ReplyDeleteI only think posts without photos don't work if you use a layout more like mine (where you only get a summary or part of a post on the front page). Otherwise, who cares! I'm hear to read what you have to say, not just look at pretty pictures.
ReplyDeleteLove how honest you are about your resolutions and how you hold yourself accountable. Good luck with Feb and the rest of the year (congrats on handing in your notice!). My only 'resolution' this year was to try harder with my blog and that seems to be going well so far (although I've probably just jinxed myself now, heh). Keep up the good work lovely lady! x
